I figured it was about time to post some of my New York pics. This is Russ and I in front of the New Year’s Ball.
Amazed
Today we had 7 baptisms at our church. 6 were youth who have been in our group for a while now and have taken that next step-SO exciting. The other one was a man who has been in our church family for a while and has been battling cancer. The way our church does things, we video a segment of each person telling a portion of their testimony and play that before they are baptized. This is where I sat amazed. We have known this man and his family for quite some time and have been praying for healing for a while, but I never knew where his story began. Turns out an event my hubby suggested and coordinated several years ago is where his story started. I remember the long hours he put in for this event (as did many other) and praying it would be used by God to reach someone but wondering if it did. Sometimes you find out years (literally) later that that event is what God used. Amazing.
Tsunami
Things don’t always go as we plan. The last few days my family has been in Monterey, CA on a much needed and long anticipated 3 day vacation. As we planned, we thought spending the whole day Friday on the beach would be perfect and then we could bum around the rest of the time…then the earthquake happened in Japan, and a tsunami warning was issued. All the beaches were closed Friday, ALL of them. We improvised and ended up having a wonderful adventure as a family including a trip to the beach today (complete with catching momentarily a sea star and crabs from the tide pools). There were a few times where the lack of sleep and having to improvise got to us, but we took a breath and ended up with wonderful family experiences. It got me thinking though about how often things don’t go as planned and how often we don’t get past the having to improvise. I think sometimes we just need to let go and move on-and realize we can have a wonderful experience.
